Game 17: November 12 Vs. Chicago Blackhawks

The New Jersey Devils were the team most people around the league expected to come back to Earth. After a red-hot start in October, the Devils faced their first losing streak to start November. They ended a four-game streak of losses by beating the Florida Panthers at home. Obviously that four-point swing is what got them in the playoffs, since Florida finished just one point behind the Devils that was obviously a huge game.

However, there was no way of knowing that at that point. One thing we did know, is the next night we learned something about these Devils.

The Blackhawks came to town, sporting an 8-7-2 record. Obviously things hadn’t started as most would have guessed, but Chicago was still one of the scariest teams in the league.

The Blackhawks proved that to start the game. They showed their will in the first period, racing out to a 4-1 lead in the first period. It looked like it was over early, but the Devils proved that you can never quit on them. The Devils could have thrown in the towel, but they didn’t.

Miles Wood proved something early in that game, scoring two goals in the first period en route to his first career hat trick. The Devils erased the three-goal deficit in the second period, leaving up 6-5. Wood added one for good measure in the third period. It showed that everyone should take this Devils team seriously, because they could score at will against any opponent.
