Are New Jersey Devils Giving Up On Third Jersey?
The hockey world was put on it’s head on Saturday after the Anaheim Ducks unveiled their alternate jersey. Were the rumors of an alternate jersey for the New Jersey Devils wrong?
The New Jersey Devils were rumored to have a third jersey, after a list of teams reportedly leaked had Jersey’s team on Adidas’ list.
Adidas Alternates
So far, this list has been spot on. As you can see, the Anaheim Ducks are indeed on the list. Saturday, they revealed they are feeling the “Quack” and going throwback for their third alternate jersey.
It’s a very pretty jersey. They did a really good job of mixing the old school logo with the new school look. We know the Ducks were trying to shake their Disney roots, but when your logo looks as good as this, you want to at least keep it as an option.
Now that we’ve seen another alternate jersey, are the Devils the next in line to get one?
From what I can tell, this is the third team to announce their third jersey. The Carolina Hurricanes and Arizona Coyotes were the only other team to reveal their new colors. That’s strange, since those are two of the smallest fanbases in the league. It seems like the NHL would want to propose the Penguins or Maple Leafs alternatives to get more people excited.

That means that Adidas is clearly taking their time revealing the third jerseys. If they wanted to, they could reveal a new jersey every week. However, they aren’t. Whether that’s because the new jerseys aren’t ready, or if this is a marketing ploy, it has a lot of people asking questions.
The Devils have a ton of options for a third jersey. They could go with the black jersey with red lettering. The team could change up the logo slightly or use the mascot’s head (but they really, really shouldn’t). They could make a version of their throwback jersey, similar to their Stadium Series jersey. The team has options.
Whether or not the rumors are true about the Devils third jersey, it’s still fun to anticipate what could happen. The Devils have never had an alternate jersey in their existence, but that should change. They don’t need to wear them much, because their regular logo is the best in the league, but it’s nice to have options. Hopefully Adidas give us more merchandise to waste our money on.
