New Jersey Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid has some fans up in arms after he showed up on a New York Rangers podcast. It seems like a strange move after he went on a block brigade last season.

Here’s the thing, we are in the era of overreacting. Whether it’s news, sports or politics, we seem to react to every single decision made by almost anyone. That much is true about today’s article. Here’s the thing, New Jersey Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid put himself in this position.

Last year, Kinkaid blocked a majority of Devils fans on Twitter. That includes this blog and some of its writers. That’s fine. He’s allowed to make that decision, even if it came in the form of Twitter searching his name.

Then, Kinkaid made the interesting decision. Maybe interesting isn’t the right word. Wrong decision? It feels like it was a wrong decision. Kinkaid decided to go on the Blueshirts Breakaway podcast. The Blueshirts Breakaway calls itself the official Rangers podcast by Rangers fans. That seems like the wrong place for the goalie that carried the Devils to the playoffs.

If there was a lack of Devils podcasts out there, then maybe this would make sense. Or, even if this was a general NHL podcast with a Devils bias. Something like how Hockey Central at noon has a Maple Leafs bias. However, neither of these are facts.

Kinkaid could have gone on Talking Red, or he could have tried Devils Daily by the Devils Insiders. They literally do a podcast almost every day! There’s the Let’s Go Devils podcast. I could go on, because there are others, but still Kinkaid decided to go on a Rangers podcast.

Honestly, most Devils fans would have been cool if Kinkaid went on an Islanders podcast. He grew up on Long Island and has a lot of stories to tell to Islanders fans. This isn’t that.

If Kinkaid did not shut out dozens upon dozens (if not over a hundred at this point) Devils fans from seeing his Twitter account, this would have been a very small blunder. However, Kinkaid blocked out the fans of his team and made himself more accessible to the team’s rivals. This is setting himself up for criticism. Especially since Kinkaid was doing the emoji tweets after wins. It’s like blocking out half the fanbase.

I understand how this will all sound. It’s coming off like sour grapes. That’s fine. It’s just a criticism for his one decision.
