It has been a long time coming and Adidas finally delivered. A white home sweater for the Devils to dawn at the Prudential Center that has the green instead of black. Adidas has been releasing many great throwbacks throughout the summer, and they have pretty much all been great.

The Devils have never really had a jersey they considered an official alternate to their normal black and red jerseys. They will wear these new whites four times this season at Prudential Center this upcoming season, the dates are to be determined.

More from Pucks and Pitchforks

The New Jersey Devils have however, worn the red throwback jerseys with the green instead of black for specific occasions throughout the years, including a few appearances on St. Patrick’s Day, random throwback nights, and the 2014 NHL Stadium Series at Yankee Stadium vs the New York Rangers. In fact, they went 4-6 in 10 appearances in the red retro jerseys.

Many great players wore the jerseys as their mains, and as retro jerseys. Ilya Kovalchuk, Zach Parise, Martin Brodeur, and Taylor Hall to name a few from over the years to wear them as retro. Cory Schneider and Martin Brodeur each registered one win dawning the red retros, while Keith Kinkaid leads the franchise with two wins in the retros.

The reception on Twitter and other social media outlets seemed to be mostly positive. Many folks wanted a men in black type jersey, and that certainly would be cool, but the white retro jersey fits what adidas has put out there for the other teams this summer. Other than that the white, red and green jersey for what it is, seems to be liked by the fan base as a whole. It is exciting to think about them wearing these at home, and their opponents will be in their normal colored home jerseys at Prudential Center.
