After a few days of speculation, one journalist says that he’s confirmed that Martin Brodeur is indeed returning to the New Jersey Devils. This is a great idea for all parties.

It may not be official, but it’s confirmed that Martin Brodeur is returning to the New Jersey Devils organization.

It looks like Brodeur will be changing his role to learn more about the money side of hockey. Brodeur is coming from the St. Louis Blues organization, where he was the assistant GM. The Devils are not only bringing home the best player in the history of the franchise, but they’re getting a pretty good front office guy.

Andy Strickland with Fox Sports Midwest seems to think Brodeur could be looking at future jobs as president of an organization. Obviously, the Devils have more spots open with the fiscal side of the organization than they do with hockey operations. This makes it a win-win for both the Devils and Brodeur.

Brodeur has said recently that he was looking to scale back a role with a hockey organization. He wants to spend some more time with his son. This allows him to do two things; work a lesser role with an organization he loves and learn a new skill that will open up more options in the future.

The Devils will reportedly announce the move either later this week or early next week. They may move up that timeline now that the cat is out of the bag. Either way, it’s a great move for everyone to bring Brodeur back to the place where he became a legend. It works out that he comes back the same year he becomes a Hall of Famer.
