Today, the New Jersey Devils and its fans got the best news possible when we learned that Brian Boyle’s cancer was in remission. It was a long journey that hopefully takes the next step towards a happy ending.

This is literally the best possible news I could think of happening today. This is better than winning the Mega Millions lottery jackpot. We learned that New Jersey Devils forward Brian Boyle’s fight with chronic myeloid leukemia is in remission.

This has been an emotional month when it comes to news surrounding leukemia. Just days ago, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns announced on live TV that he was dealing with his own bout with leukemia. There was a trial that found a way to counteract the resistance of chemo on leukemia. Now, this.

Boyle has been a heart and soul player for the New Jersey Devils during his time with the team. It all started last season when he missed training camp, and the first few weeks of the season while he started his fight against cancer. Once he returned, it was an emotional roller coaster. He went from some of the highest highs, like scoring on Hockey Fights Cancer night, to some lows that come with a long NHL season.

Beyond that, he was dealing with a sickness that affected his child. It just added to what was already an incredibly hard year. Now, the Boyle family can breathe a sigh of relief, but despite this great news the fight isn’t over, as Boyle told Michael Morreale.

"“The game plan has been working well, and now I’m just going to continue with it. It was good news, but it doesn’t change a whole lot for me and I’ll continue taking the medicine.”"

More from Pucks and Pitchforks

It seems like Boyle is trying to be realistic about this news, but this is great news either way. He doesn’t have to show that emotion. Let him deal with this news as he wants to. As a fan, this is amazing.

This isn’t a time to talk about hockey, but this will indeed help the Devils on the ice. After a tough week of practice following two straight losses, this will only motivate the Devils more. This also shows how Boyle is playing better to start the year. He must be feeling better, because he has three goals in the first six games. I will surely take a 40 goals pace from our fourth-line forward.

Boyle was such a driving force for the Devils last season. Now that he’s in remission, we can all send our love his way.
