As Halloween approaches, I thought it be fun to look at the good, bad and ugly so far this season. Lets first remember that the season is very young and to not jump on anything particular just yet. The way the Devils are playing now will be way different from in a month or two. Also, injuries are and will be factor as with every team. Enjoy your Halloween and hope too see some devils jerseys and costumes out there.
First the good. The Devils are 5-3-1 and playing very fast. Nico Hischier is looking great and already has three goals and five assists. I cannot think of one game where he has slumped so far.
Then, there is Taylor Hall who can live up to the pressure. Fans who worried about a decline have been shown the door early on. For the most part, the offense has put up the goals and been fast enough to outscore opponents. Having one of the best penalty kills in the league also helps them progress.
Now, lets look at the bad. It is not time to jump to conclusions after a small sample of hockey. However, the injuries have hurt the team defensively. The injuries to Travis Zajac, Jesper Bratt and Ben Lovejoy are big important players that team needs back. As of Monday, news was out that were at least traveling with the team.

Also goalie Cory Schneider was back with the team after his injury and will travel on this week’s road trip.
Finishing off with the ugly, penalties, penalties, penalties. During Saturdays win against Florida, Miles Wood alone had three penalties in the first period. What will it take to get the team more disciplined?
Coach John Hynes will have to look and see if the same mistakes are being made over and over again. If so, it will be up to him to get his players on track. As they get into the heart of the season every point counts. Taking a penalty can cost a game. If anything that should be the first thing to be fixed for now.
