Just when things look bleak for the New Jersey Devils goalie system, a Brodeur comes to save them. Well, probably not exactly.

It’s something we probably never thought we see again. A number 30 jersey in the Devils red and black with the name “Brodeur” across the shoulder pads. This isn’t a jersey we’re seeing for the New Jersey Devils, but actually the Binghamton Devils.

Well, this is interesting. The New Jersey Devils have another Brodeur in their system. This time, it’s Jeremy Brodeur after he signs a PTO with the Binghamton Devils.

The entire Devils organization is in a bad way with goalie injuries. Mackenzie Blackwood left Friday night’s game against the Arizona Coyotes early, and we haven’t seen him on the ice since. Cory Schneider is on IR with a midsection injury. Eddie Lack is done for the year after hip surgery. Cam Johnson has been overwhelmed and probably needs a season in the ECHL. Evan Cormier just played a really good game, but he was on a Canadian college team to start this season.

So, here we are with Jeremy Brodeur, who yes is the son of the great Martin Brodeur. He’s 22 years old, and has been bouncing around leagues the past few years. After a few good years in the OHL and the ECHL, he’s had a very tough season with the Allen Americans and Norfolk Admirals this season. It doesn’t make much sense. All of a sudden he went from having a .917 save percentage to having an .888 save percentage.

Brodeur is likely only with Binghamton for a short time. Johnson could get the call up to backup Keith Kinkaid if Blackwood can’t go on Sunday. That would prolong Brodeur’s tryout for the time being. What’s likely is he was one of the only goalies available for a short-term stint at this time, and it was nice to get another Brodeur jersey out there.

Maybe this is what Brodeur needs to gain some confidence back that’s eluded him this season. Or possibly this can be one of those weird trivia questions asking the last time someone wore a Brodeur Devils jersey. Either way, it was cool to see that name plate, even for just one more night.
