Cory Schneider lost again. Whether it’s with the Binghamton Devils or New Jersey Devils, it’s starting to get weird that this goalie can’t get a win.
Friday marks 401 days since December 27, 2017. There’s nothing that special about that day. The sun came up, the rooster woke up farmers and the Kardashians did something insane. It was just a typical day. Looking back, that day was not so typical. At least, not for New Jersey Devils fans. That was the last time the team’s $6 million goalie got them a win.
Friday night was the first time where it really felt like Cory Schneider had a chance to finally win a game since then. It wasn’t for the New Jersey Devils, but a wins a win at this point. Getting Schneider a win for the Binghamton Devils would be huge.
The B-Devils scored two goals to take a commanding lead. Then, something came over this team. Binghamton couldn’t get shots, let alone goals, even with power plays. The Rochester Americans, on the other hand, began to pepper Schneider with shots. He kept the game tied for as long as he could, but the Devils ended up giving up the game-winning goal with just over a minute left.
It’s just heart breaking at this point. Schneider did what he could, then right at the end it’s taken away from him. This seems like there’s more involved than just hockey.
Is it possible that no matter what, Schneider will never win again? Statistics, history and everything else that the smartest people in hockey say no. It’s not possible that he can continue to play, and tonight he played well, yet continue to lose every single game.

Yet, when you follow games like Friday night, that impossibility seems almost possible. Schneider cannot catch a break, and he’s not the guy he used to be. He can’t steal games for the New Jersey Devils anymore, and it appears he can’t do it for Binghamton either. He needs help right now if he’s going to get a win, but both Binghamton and the New Jersey Devils don’t have the right teams to help him right now.
If the Devils put Schneider on waivers, he will likely pass through and he can stay in Binghamton. That means he can get the majority of the starts, he can teach Cam Johnson what it’s like to be a professional goalie, and he can play until his name goes into the win column. If he continues to play, he has to get a win eventually, right? Right?
