It has been a rough go for the New Jersey Devils netminder, and after all of that it took an epic comeback to finally get back in the win column.

The New Jersey Devils got a road win against the Minnesota Wild by a final score of 5-4 in overtime. Most of the actual game has no real importance as the Devils are likely not making it to the postseason, but it was a huge win for the team moving forward.

The game started with Keith Kinkaid in net who allowed four goals to the Wild. Cory Schneider came in to relieve Kinkaid as they were down 4-1 with about half of a game to play. Schneider did not give up another goal the rest of the way and they tied the game with just over two minutes left to force overtime.

That is where our new Mr. Overtime came up clutch again as Nico Hischier scored his third overtime goal of the season. Nico is our guy and we are so lucky to have him in the fold. Although this is so great for Nico, the night belongs to Cory Schneider.

Schneider has had a really rough go of it since getting injured in December of 2017. He would not win a game the rest of the 17-18 season as he spent some time injured and Keith Kinkaid got most of the nods getting them into the playoffs.

Schneider began this season injured as well and had some bumps and bruises along the way before finding himself in Binghamton during the NHL clubs bye week and allstar break for a rehab assignment.

More from Pucks and Pitchforks

You were able to tell he was better once he finally got back after that and has played pretty well but had no luck. Well this game against the Wild was finally where things went his way. The demons were exercised as he finally got the win with the help and resiliency of some of his teammates. This will go down as one of the more memorable wins of the season.

Now the Devils will head home for a stretch beginning with a Sunday night game vs the Buffalo Sabres. Hopefully this will be where Schneider forgets about all of the events of 2018 and can carry this the rest of the way and into next season. The Devils need him at his best and the guys in that locker room.

As far as us fans, we should all be so thankful for Cory Schneider. He kept the Devils from being embarrassingly bad for a few years there and it was so awesome to see everyone support him during the trying times. We need to all stick together and root for each and every member of the organization to succeed. The hole is too big to come out of this season, but lets hope they play well and get back to New Jersey Devils hockey in 2019-20. Now we rise.
