Martin Hugo Has

Let’s be serious, the Devils could seriously use some size on the blue line. They have some in the prospect ranks, but none are anywhere close to NHL ready. Not saying Martin Hugo Has is NHL ready, because he’s not, but he has a higher ceiling than a lot of the defensemen with his specks.

Hugo Has stands at 6’4, and is already close to 200 pounds. He may have a baby face, but he can skate through you like a freight train. On top of that, he can score. He played in the Jr. Liiga, the top junior league in Finland. He’s one of the few defensemen in this draft that can skate through and around the competition.

He’s the type of player that can play in any and all situations. He could one day become your top penalty killer, but also has the skill set to QB the power play. This type of versatility is what John Hynes and Ray Shero will want from their prospects at this level. They are obviously not the best players overall, but at 96 you can still get a very, very good player.

He still has some issues with his skating, and that leads to too many mistakes on the ice. This would be a pick you make with the future in mind. You’d have to get him in a position where he can grow immensely year after year.

Hugo Has needs a ton of work, but if things work out and you get him on the right track he could be really good.
