The New Jersey Devils may have a contract issue coming up, but they should just take it for what it is and do what’s best for the franchise.
There are rumors surrounding New Jersey Devils superstar Taylor Hall and his current contract situation. They are the type of rumors that no Devils fan wants to hear about right now, saying that Hall is not currently interested in signing a contract extension with the Devils.
The fact of the matter is that it is what it is. The Devils traded Adam Larson one for one for Hall and it was one of the most lopsided trades in NHL history. He has been the Devils best player for three years, including winning the Hart Trophy.
With how good he has been he can do one of two things for the Devils. He can either stay and be one of the best wingers in the NHL for them, or he can decide he wants to be go and earn the Devils some elite return in a trade.
Look at the Mark Stone trade for example. The Ottawa Senators traded Stone to the Vegas Golden Knight for a 2nd-round pick, forward Oscar Lindberg, and top prospect Erik Brannstrom. Brannstrom is an elite puck-moving defensive prospect who was the 15th-overall pick in 2017.

That is great return for an elite winger like Stone. Well, Hall is better than Stone so consider what they might get in return if they ultimately had to trade him. They could end up getting a first round pick along with an elite prospect, or they can use him to get an elite defenseman as well.
Obviously, we want our MVP to return to the team. He would be a great mentor for the young roster that the Devils are going to have in the coming years. He is next in line to be the captain of this team if he wanted it, but if he doesn’t want to be there he should be moved. Only guys who want to be Devils should be Devils.
So what I’m saying is no matter what happens, trust that Ray Shero is going to make the best of it. He is going to make sure this team puts its best foot forward no matter what the decision is.
