Tyler Toffoli

Tyler Toffoli went from the untouchable Los Angeles Kings player who would be the key to their future success to a player who they should get what they can for while he’s still on the team. Toffoli is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and coming off the worst year of his career. The entire Kings organization was a tire fire last season.

This could be a perfect time for the Devils to try to pry Toffoli from the Kings. Nobody is really talking about him this offseason, despite him being an obvious trade candidate. The Kings are likely going nowhere again this season, Toffoli will likely move on after the season.

He’s coming off a full season where he only scored 13 goals. This was a pathetic output, especially compared to what we expect from him. Putting him on the Devils second line with Jack Hughes would change his career around at the perfect time. He’s only 27 years old, so he’s entrenched in his prime.

The New Jersey Devils could use another player in the top six, and Toffoli is another low-risk option. If he doesn’t work out, the Devils let him go to free agency, similar to how they’re working with Wayne Simmonds. Toffoli still has a ton of potential, and is just three years removed from a 30-goal season. A year ago, he was coming off a 24-goal season. This is a kid who has had trouble finding consistency in the NHL, but maybe pairing him with Hughes would bring out the best in the goal scorer.
