5. The First Great Moment

October 22nd, 2016 vs. Minnesota Wild

Taylor Hall was still in shock his first season in red and black. He could not believe the Edmonton Oilers would trade him away after the team was finally getting better. Connor McDavid was growing every season. Then, on a random summer day, Hall became a member of the New Jersey Devils.

He did not take long to make a major impact. In his first home game of the season, they beat the Anaheim Ducks thanks to Hall scoring every goal for his team in the game. However, that wasn’t his real “welcome to New Jersey” moment. That came when a familiar enemy came to town in the form of Zach Parise.

The Minnesota Wild were rolling to start the season, and they were looking to get an easy win against the Devils. Hall was not going to let that happen. It was the first Saturday night game of the season at the Prudential Center. The two teams were scratching and clawing for every goal. P.A. Parenteau tied the game in the third period, and we went into overtime.

It didn’t waste any time to have his first major Devils moment. 29 seconds into overtime, he took a pass from his former Juniors teammate Adam Henrique, and put it five hole past Devan Dubnyk. This showed that the Devils had their first offensive superstar since Parise and Kovalchuk left. It made it that much sweeter that the Devils did this right in front of the former number nine at the hands of the new number nine.
