The New Jersey Devils’ top prospect had an incredible night with his junior squad. Ty Smith’s remarkable game helped them to a big win.

The New Jersey Devils know that Ty Smith has the potential to be an absolute stud once he reaches the National Hockey League. He might struggle at first but it is clear that he has the talent to make himself into a very good player one day. The Devils took him with the 17th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. He currently plays for the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL.

It came to a bit of a surprise to people who follow this Devils team that Smith didn’t make the NHL roster. He was one of the final cuts in 2018-19, so the following year seemed to be a lock. In both of those seasons, the Devils were bad so it is probably a good thing that they didn’t throw their teenage defenseman into that type of environment.

Smith is currently Spokane’s captain and his remarkable night led them to their big win. From the blue line, Smith scored a hat trick and added in five assists in their 9-2 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds. It was a tremendous game for Smith as he set the club record for points in a single game by a defenseman. It was truly a night that Smith will never forget. Smith is having an awesome month as his eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points is fourth in the entire league.

Spokane has already clinched their spot in the playoffs, so that will be some good experience for Smith. Once the playoffs are over for them, there is a chance that Smith gets to come to play for the Binghamton Devils. That would really be something to see as the B-Devils are hot right now as well.

It might not seem like it after a season like this, but the future is bright with Ty Smith leading the charge of players waiting to break in. He will join what is already a young organization looking to build towards something great.
