The New Jersey Devils hope to have a few picks in the 2020 NHL Draft. There are so many different opinions once you get past the first pick which is good.

The New Jersey Devils are going to have yet another top-ten pick. Eventually, you have to hope that the string of top ten picks will end for a while but for now, they still need to continue building. The 2020 NHL Draft is going to come at some point but we don’t know exactly when. When it does come, there is definitely a lot of intrigue within the top-ten.

It is one of the deeper drafts in recent memory. Alexis Lafreniere is going to be the number one overall pick. There is little debate that the Rimouski Oceanic forward is the best prospect in the world. After him is where the intrigue begins. A lot of people believe that Quinton Byfield should be the second-overall pick because he has the second most overall talent. Well, now a guy like Tim Stutzle has gained steam as a potential second overall pick.

There are also some other players in the top five that are argued over who should go where. Names like Marco Rossi, Lucas Raymond,  Jamie Drysdale, and Cole Perfetti are mentioned among others. There are so many different opinions that make this draft so much fun to study and debate about.

So with all these varying opinions, how should the Devils handle it? There are people who think that they should go based on a positional need but the fact of the matter is that they should grab who they deem is the best player. If they think Byfield is better than Stutzle then they should take Byfield, despite the fact that they need a left-wing more than a center. A guy like Pavel Zacha, who could move to wing anyway, should not dictate what player they take in a current draft.

One thing to remember is that Lafreniere is basically the only thing people agree on when it comes to this draft. Nobody’s opinion is right or wrong when it comes to a draft like this or any draft for that matter. The draft is a very mysterious place and development has a lot to do with how successful players become once they reach the NHL. Knowing how heated some people get when talking about this draft makes it fun but don’t take it too far. In the end, we just want the New Jersey Devils to take whoever will bring them closer to sustained success.
