The New Jersey Devils might be wanting to select a 1st-round defenseman this year. If they don’t end up with Jamie Drysdale or Jake Sanderson, they might have to reach to get the next best one. If they wanted to do that with the pick that once belonged to the Vancouver Canucks, they might consider Kaiden Guhle.

Guhle currently plays for the Prince Albert Raiders of Western Hockey League. He is a big defenseman that stands at 6’3″ and 187 lbs. At 18 years old, it might take him a bit to get to the National Hockey League but he definitely has the potential to do so. He would be a great addition to the organizational depth of the blue line that New Jersey is trying to build.

Guhle just finished his second full season with the Raiders. He will probably go back there for a minimum of one more season and possibly will go for two. He had a dramatic improvement in his numbers from year one to year two. In his first full year there, he had three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 65 games. He came into his second year and had 11 goals and 29 assists for 40 points in 64 games.

If he gets drafted in the 1st round, whoever takes him might see him go back to Prince Albert and really light it up in his third full year there. If the Devils see his upside as something worth taking a chance on, he would be a player you could see them reach for with the Vancouver pick if they are awarded the selection.
