Trading 7 New Jersey Devils To Playoff Teams For A Special Run
By Nick Villano
Kyle Palmieri to Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers have needed wingers since we can remember. They are stacked down the middle, with the best player in the world in Connor McDavid running the top line and a Hart-Trophy favorite Leon Draisaitl manning the first two lines. Right after them, they have former number-one overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but he also plays winger.
Full-time wingers you may have heard of include James Neal (spends most of his time in the bottom six now), Zach Kassian, and 21-year-old Kailer Yamamoto. They traded for Andreas Athanasiou from the Detroit Red Wings at the trade deadline. There is some talent, but they need a lot more if they want to actually compete this season.
Kyle Palmieri would be the perfect fit for this team. He’s a sniper that just needs you to get him the puck and he’ll take care of the rest. Whether he’s on the first or second line, McDavid or Draisaitl will get the puck to Palmieri, and he has the ability to have an insane postseason.
Palmieri has been on a heater this season. He’s shooting at a 16.1% clip, by far the best of his career. In 65 games, he had 25 goals and 20 assists. If he was able to finish the season, he would likely hit the second 30-goal season of his career.
Palmieri seems like the most perfect fit on this list. Either keep Kassian on the first line with McDavid and put Palms on the second line with Draisaitl, or use Palmieri to push Kassian and eventually take him over. Either way, this could be the best chance for the NHL to get its best player in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in his career.
