As you can tell, first-round picks would almost need to happen in a trade for Jack Eichel. The Devils could have up to three of them in the 2020 draft so giving up two of them for Eichel almost seems like something that would have to happen. The Sabres probably don’t want to trade him anyway and the only reason they would is that he hates his situation.

With those first-round picks in a deal like this, the Devils sending Kyle Palmieri and Jesper Boqvist to Buffalo would be a lot. The thing is, Eichel is worth it as mentioned before. Palmieri is an interesting one because he is on an expiring contract. It is also hard to pinpoint how much he is worth right now because he was a very good goal scorer on a bad team for so long.

Jesper Boqvist is a player that would be tough to see go because he has lots of talent. He wasn’t used right in his first season as a pro anyway so it might be best for him anyway to get more playing time up in the lineup. The Devils see him as a player that can provide a lot to their team but he needs to be put in the right situation. They are likely keeping him but if the Sabres wanted him in an Eichel package, its an easy call.

It should be noted that all of these trades are extremely hypothetical. The only reason it is even fun to talk about is that Eichel spoke out on his team being bad along with the fact that the seven non-playoff teams are allowed to make trades. The Sabres might even want more than what was suggested in this post to get Eichel away from them but you just never know in that aspect. Anyway, it is fun to discuss what might get the job done if the two teams ever discussed something.
