The New Jersey Devils could use another left wing to fill out the top six.

The New Jersey Devils let one of the best left wings in the world go when they traded Taylor Hall to the Arizona Coyotes. Say what you want about how he performed, we know at his best Hall can be one of the best hockey talents on this planet. We can’t blame the Devils. Hall was going to leave in the offseason, and the Devils were able to gather some really good assets for the future.

Now, the Devils have a hole to fill on the top line. It’s fun to see certain players build themselves up to that top line with that spot open. Jesper Bratt was able to get some time next to Nico Hischier and Kyle Palmieri. That’s very important for a player his age. Jack Hughes was moved to the wing to give him time with the team’s best center. It didn’t work, and by the end of the season, Miles Wood was playing with the top line. This is not ideal.

The Devils need more left wings. Nikita Gusev is a nice option, but if they can make him the second-line player then that would be best. He’s a great talent, but we haven’t seen him prove he can be a top-line player just yet. Also, his contract is up after next season. It would just be best to have another player in that role.

So, the Devils still need a top-line left wing. For the record, we’re not going to mention Taylor Hall here. We’ve done multiple pieces on him, and we will probably do a couple more situational pieces including him.

That means the Devils need to find top-line wings in other places. There are options there. Some would cost a decent price, others would be a really good value. Either way, some players can help this team end this stretch of mediocrity.
