Nico Hischier – Team Switzerland

While Jack Hughes appearance for Team U.S.A is still a question mark, Nico Hischier making the roster for Switzerland is basically guaranteed. Barring injury or Switzerland just not going to the Olympics for some reason, Hischier will be on their roster and probably their top center. Other centers expected to be on the team are Gaetan Haas and Pius Suter. Not exactly the competition Hughes is dealing with.

Hischier isn’t just on this list because of his lack of competition. We think Hischier has a chance to become a star at these Olympic Games.

He doesn’t even have to medal, he just needs to play big against the biggest competition. If he’s able to put two past Carter Hart when the Swiss face Team Canada, or if he goes head to head with Auston Matthews and comes out shining, then he’ll come out of these Olympics as a star. Everyone loves to watch an underdog, and if this underdog takes down a team on his own like Sweden or Russia, then his star will explode.

Hischier won’t get a lot of hype for his team going into the Olympics. There are supremely talented teams going in, but with Timo Meier and maybe Nino Niederreiter on his wings, he has the right talent around him to try and make a top-heavy team competitive. Hischier will be trying to do on offense what his countryman Roman Josi is doing on defense. Those two will look to make this a memorable return to the Olympic Games for NHL players.
