Trade One

Patrik Laine would be a great piece to add for the New Jersey Devils. He would certainly help them produce offense, and he might still have room to grow. That is why it might be worth it to move Damon Severson for Laine. Severson is a good puck-moving defenseman, but he is certainly expendable.

If Severson joined the Winnipeg Jets, he would immediately get the chance to take the next step. He would be joining a team that saw a lot of its defense dwindle in just one summer. He could be a nice piece in building it back up. If he were able to join the likes of Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, and Kyle Connor on the top power-play unit, he would really be able to rack up the points.

New Jersey has the potential to have three 1st-round picks in the 2020 NHL Draft. One of them, the Arizona pick, would be somewhere in the middle of the round. That is a very valuable asset for this team, especially with how deep this draft is. If Winnipeg wanted it for Laine, the Devils should absolutely consider it. This would certainly be a big trade in the eyes of the NHL and could help out both teams in terms of getting what they need.
