Conor Sheary

Conor Sheary was one of the players to keep an eye on this playoff season since he’s set to become a free agent at the end of the season. The Devils make a lot of sense for the winger. Some teams might shy away from him after his disastrous stint with the Buffalo Sabres, but we shouldn’t hold his production there against him. He’s always been amazing with the Penguins in his two stints there, and that was no different in this playoff series.

Sheary was third on the Penguins in CF% at 5v5 with 55.45%. His high-danger chance percentage was even better (18 high-danger chances for his line while he was on the ice against only nine for the other team). Sheary was also one of two players that weren’t on the ice for a goal against. In close to 57 minutes on the ice, the Canadiens never scored.

Sheary is available to sign for free this offseason. If he finds the right spot, he could be invaluable to a team. He might decide to return to the Penguins since that’s where he’s seen his most success, but other teams like the Devils might be willing to give him more money. Like the saying goes, “money talks”.

This would be a nice move for the Devils, although it would be less exciting than the previous two. Sheary is also 28 years old, so he’s in his prime right now. He may not “fit the timeline” as some might want, but almost no unrestricted free agents will this season. Sheary could bring invaluable playoff experience the Devils are severely lacking. When the going gets tough, the Devils need a couple of voices in the room besides Zajac who have clout to go with their skill. This could be an interesting signing for the Devils.
