New Jersey Devils: 5 Defensive Prospect To Target In Trades
By Nick Villano
Philip Broberg – Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers are out here looking to make moves. They’ve been tied to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Matt Murray. However, they didn’t like the price. If that’s the case, it might be harder for them to part with one of their best prospects when they aren’t getting the goalie they desire, however the Devils have pieces that would interest them.
Palmieri seems like the obvious piece for the Oilers here, since they have two great centers and some questionable wingers. Adding Palmieri to this team would make major waves, especially if they can turn it into an extension. The Devils are asking for an astronomical price for the former 30-goal scorer. Philip Broberg would be a price they can’t say no to.
Broberg is one of the better defensive prospects not in the NHL. He was in a huge class for defense, joining Bowen Byram, Moritz Seider, Victor Soderstrom, and Cam York. Most of these names are unavailable. Rumors swirled the Devils were trying to get Byram in a Taylor Hall trade. Who knows how far along those talks went, but it’s clear the team wants high-quality defensive prospects.
Broberg would be exactly that. He’s currently on loan with the Skelleftea AIK in SHL. He’s only done things like this in the preseason:
It’s going to take some serious negotiating skills, but with Ethan Bear stepping up on top of Darnell Nurse, Adam Larsson, and Oscar Klefbom providing a good top four might help them feel better about saying goodbye to the top prospect to fix a weakness on the wings.
