New Jersey Devils Full 7-Round Mock Draft
By Nick Villano
7th Round, 192nd Overall
Devils select Chase Yoder, RW, U.S. National Development Team
Chase Yoder is a very competitive Texan player that’s heading to Providence College next season. The Devils have done well in Texas before, and they’ll look to strike gold in a late round again.
Yoder is a player that has a lot of development before he’s even close to ready for the NHL, but taking chances on NCAA players late in the draft has often been a smart move for teams, including the Devils.
Yoder was not the offensive dynamo we usually expect from the U.S. program. He had 38 points in 102 games last season. It’s a brutal schedule right before college, but one most players come out of better than they came in. Now, he’s heading to college to play in the NCAA next season. He’s going to a stacked Friars team that’s looking to replace the production of their best player Jack Dugan. Fellow Devils prospect Tyce Thompson will be there again after his breakout season last year. He could keep an eye on Yoder as they both develop.
This one is a complete flier, but that’s what smart teams do with their 7th-round pick. Yoder could continue to grow as expected, and he would become a nice bottom-six player.
