Being Lost and Found at Winnipeg

After losing to the Minnesota Wild the previous night, many could think the worse was behind them. While Bernier would get the start, little did he know that this would be his worse start for the Devils this season.

Almost two minutes into the game, Mark Scheifele made some good dekes to beat Bernier to go up 1-0. Two minutes later, with some great passing plays, Nikolaj Ehlers beat the post and Bernier to make it a 2-0 Jets lead. While the Jets’ attack slowed down again for a bit, it didn’t take long for them to push the lead further. When Bernier tried passing the puck to Severson to get out of the zone, Damon Severson couldn’t control the puck in time as Adam Lowry pressured him. When the Jets got the puck back, a quick set up from Paul Statsny to Kristian Vesalainen allowed the Jets to go up by three goals. So while the Jets were doing all of this, the Devils didn’t stop the Jets’ attack at all.

Thankfully, the Devils finally did end up getting on the board in the middle of the first period, thanks to Severson. The Devils made it close by the end of the first period thanks to Jack Hughes scoring to make it a 3-2 game.

In the second period, the Devils decided to play some actual good hockey and managed to stage a comeback. With Nico Hischier and Ryan Graves scoring a goal, the Devils now led 4-3. Unfortunately, the team fell back to earth and again played with little effort, and the Jets retook advantage. For the rest of the entire game, the Jets were the only team to score goals. After Mark Scheifele scored the 6th Jets goal, Ruff took out Bernier and put in Blackwood to finish the game. It didn’t end up mattering anyway as Blackwood gave up two more goals, including Scheifele’s 3rd to get his hat trick. The Jets ended up winning the game 8-4, where the team looked lost and had only a little joy in the game.
