The Vancouver Canucks aren’t in the best situation when it comes to cap space, but that could be solved before the trade deadline. The Canucks have already been tied to the Devils in a possible Pavel Zacha deal and the Devils have been tied to the Canucks in a Connor Garland deal. What if they keep talking and eventually get to a bigger piece for both sides? Brock Boesser might not be a “superstar” like others on the list, but he might be a piece that puts the top six together once and for all. Right now, the Devils only guarantees in the top six are Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, and Jesper Bratt. Alexander Holtz should make it there next season. That leaves two spots wide open with players like Tomas Tatar and Yegor Sharangovich trying to hold onto spots within it.

It would make a lot of sense for the Devils to talk to the Canucks about Boesser, and honestly it would make sense for the Canucks to listen. They are going to ask for something preposterous in the deal, but the first-round pick might be too intriguing to pass up if the Canucks are looking to retool.

The Canucks have $10 million in cap space this offseason, and Boesser needs a new contract. They could get more space if they make a J.T. Miller trade before the deadline or in the offseason. The Canucks just have so many bad contracts from the previous regime. Maybe a player who could be on the team in a year or two on an entry-level contract who might have star power would be enough to get the rights to Boesser.
