The NHL Trade Deadline is fast approaching, and the New Jersey Devils have been linked to a few possible trade scenarios. Some of their main targets currently play for the Vancouver Canucks, including Conor Garland and Brock Boeser. While those two trade candidates are possible to obtain, it will still take a lot of negotiating from Tom Fitzgerald and the entire front office to actually pull it off. However, there’s another player from the Canucks organization that’s been rumored to join the Devils sometime in the future. That player is Quinn Hughes, the older brother of Jack and Luke Hughes.

Obviously, a Quinn Hughes trade is a far-fetched idea, but it still intrigues people associated with the Devils organization. It would be a compelling sight to see all three Hughes brothers play on the same team, and this would shapeshift the Devils organization overnight. Similar to Jack, Quinn is a young All-Star with a ton of potential as his career develops. Ever since the Devils drafted Luke, some reports questioned whether or not the Devils could potentially obtain Quinn via a trade. However, as previously stated, it would be an uphill battle for the Devils to pull that kind of deal off.

That type of fantasy should be left in the video game world. Acquiring Quinn is more of a “Hollywood” type of move. Because aside from making headlines, obtaining his services doesn’t benefit the Devils in the long run. They would have to potentially give up a lot of assets, and it could stunt their growth.

They have a lot of untapped talent on the defensive side of things. Especially with Jonas Siegenthaler, Ryan Graves, Damon Severson, and potential future Norris Trophy winner, Dougie Hamilton, things are looking up They already have Luke Hughes, who plays a similar style of hockey as his brother. He could make a great impact on the defensive side of things once he finishes his tenure at the University of Michigan.

So, in this case, the Devils shouldn’t get too greedy and ruin their future for a trade deal that only benefits the media. If they really want to get all three Hughes brothers on the same team, then they should wait a few more seasons. Because Jack won’t become an unrestricted free agent until 2030, whereas Quinn will become one in 2026. If all goes well with Luke, then he could be signed to a long-term deal as well. So, that would give the Devils a big enough window to potentially get all three brothers on the same team without destroying their future.
