We’ve talked a lot here about the New Jersey Devils third jersey. We hated it at first, and we thought more about it, and we’re still not the biggest fan. The Utica Comets black jersey, now that’s something we can get behind. It happens. The Devils actually had a lot of really good warmup jerseys this season, so we can get over one design.

The Toronto Maple Leafs came out with their own black jersey design. Honestly, it looks like how the Devils should have done it. It is a black jersey with low-key stripes and the blue Maple Leafs goalie. It looks good!

Great job by the Maple Leafs. *article ends*

Wait… that’s not it? What else could there be to this jersey? Oh, it’s reversible. That seems like… a choice. What does the other side look like?

So they went with a black and yellow jersey as a reversible option. I feel like some things from the 90s are great for nostalgia. Starter Jackets were dope. Those late 90s Devils teams want us to get a time machine by ourselves. One thing that we clearly don’t need is the fact that clothes needed to be “reversible”. Everything had to have two designs, and the one was always much worse than the other.

Look at the yellow from a design point of view. The stitching isn’t it’s own, so it looks like it’s inside out. Then, there’s the numbers. They are backwards. We get this might be asking for too much from a reversible jersey, but if they just had the one jersey then it’s one of the best alternates in the league.

We also have to bring up the logo. Is it supposed to be a smiley face in the Maple Leaf? And the mouth is supposed to be the word “leafs”? Why?

Let’s leave the reversible clothing where it belongs; in the past. The Devils will get an up-close and personal look at the new jerseys when they play the Leafs on the second half of a back-to-back on the road Wednesday night.
