The New Jersey Devils have a huge NHL Draft pick coming up. The 12th-overall pick will set the stage for the Sunny Mehta era. Who might they pick? These three players would be great options for the Devils.

Daxon Rudolph

If there is an RHD to potentially draft, it is Daxon Rudolph, who is projected to be at best Alex Pietrangelo, Devon Toews as an average, or Brock Faber at worst. If that is the case, on Daxon Rudolph is a great ideal player to select at 12th overall if available, if the Devils deal away Simon Nemec.

Adam Novotny

For a scoring forward out of the OHL, Adam Novotny is compared to Mason McTavish as a winger, but his true comparable is Tyler Toffoli, and another comparable is Brandon Hagel, where hard shots, receiving pucks in the open and closed spaces, while maintaining a strong net front game, scoring those garbage goals count big. He is built big for his size and age group, plus he is really reliable in his two-way game. If one of his biggest critiques is more of a shooter than a creator, that's perfect because Sunny Mehta needs to add another sniper to Jesper Bratt and Arseny Gritsyuk in this NJ Devils lineup.

Oscar Hemming

Down the line, if the Devils want to move on from Timo Meier, a personal pick of ours is certainly Oscar Hemming, a left wing, who is built like Mikko Rantanen, but wins a lot of board battles, super strong on the puck, really heavy release, and a truly strong net front game. Some say he may have a limited ceiling, not so well on pace, or offensive creativity, and if that is the case, being compared to a ceiling of Alex Tuch, higher scoring Joel Armia, and at worst Tanner Jeannot, then the Devils should absolutely draft him because the New Jersey Devils days of being too fast and too much finesse days are over.

To elaborate on the last sentence, the Devils absolutely struggled being shut out too many times two seasons in a row. Why is that? It is because of a lack of collapsing opposing defenders, pounding the inside, swapping the top forwards to screen the goalies, meanwhile, not enough fast and efficient puck movement, and far too much passing became more like a game of basketball where the chest pass gets picked off.

Fewer passes and more sniping shots on net, the more rebounds and goals will be yielded. Example, if the Devils score 5 goals with 25 shots on goal, that's 20% goals forced scoring efficiency. 4 Goals on 12 shots on goal, that's 33% goals scored. If the Devils took another 12 shots and kept scoring at that rate, then it'll be eight times you hear Howl blasted by Gaslight Anthem on 24 shots on net.
