The New Jersey Devils have been in a hot-and-cold form in the past month. They played five of the previous six games at home, including the last three, all of which resulted in losses to the Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Dallas Stars, respectively. The Devils did win two of those five home games, defeating the Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues, wearing their black alternate "Jersey" uniforms in both duels.
At the beginning of this NHL season, the team announced that it would be the last for the black "Jersey" jerseys. The Devils will wear these popular jerseys in 11 home games, starting with a tilt against the Red Wings, and finishing against the Ottawa Senators in the final home game of the regular season on April 12.
It said “Jersey” and changed the game.

The alternate jerseys have been lucky for the New Jersey Devils so far, as they have won both games mentioned earlier. With nine more games to go, the Devils will need the black jersey magic to help them in a possible playoff push. Although it's early to talk about postseason, the final three home games in these alternate uniforms in March and April might be crucial.
The Devils are not playing well and more challenges will come
The Devils are struggling at the moment, especially on offense, so any help is welcome. It's been three weeks since the team lost Jack Hughes to a finger injury. In that span, the Devils played ten games and scored 4+ goals only twice. Also, it looks like the defense became more lenient, allowing 5+ goals in five of those ten games.
Evidently, the team needs both offense and defense to improve. Some of the players who must step in in the coming weeks are defensemen Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec. Although Nemec was prolific on offense in November, scoring six goals, Luke Hughes has just one goal in 27 games this year.
A challenging period is ahead for New Jersey as the Devils will play 13 more games in 2025. Without injured talisman Jack Hughes, they need all the help they can get, including the magic of the alternate black "Jersey" jerseys.
