Well, folks, after years upon years of asking for it, the New Jersey Devils are finally getting a blacked-out jersey. Not one like the now-retired "Jersey" jersey, either -- this one is a true blackout.
Sunday afternoon on YouTube, hockey jersey enthusiast and insider icethetics put out information about the Devils' Hometown Remix jersey for 2026-27. It's been a long-awaited reveal, with the Hometown Remix being rumored for months.
The jersey series was officially announced by the league on August 19th. Three days later, new helmet designs for the Devils' projected 1A goaltender, Jake Allen, were revealed on Instagram. While the first two helmets were typical in their design, some began to question if the third design, a predominantly black helmet with a red Devils logo, was a hint at their Hometown Remix jersey.
Turns out, those inklings were right, the Devils are getting another black jersey
Iceletics cited sources that said the Devils' Hometown Remix jersey was also predominantly black, with an unbordered red logo in the middle of the jersey. It's thought to be an inversion of the 2024 Stadium Series jersey, one of the Devils' most iconic alternates in recent seasons. Icethetics also noted that "the striping echoes the devil tail in a subtle way," referencing the Devil tail on the bottom of the logo.
Some thought that many teams would imitate the New York Islanders' approach to the new jersey designs, giving fans the opportunity to vote on the new alternate. Even if the Devils did such a thing, the result would have been the same: fans have been asking for this exact design for quite some time. It will be an instant sell-out the moment it is available to purchase.
Though the NHL has not specifically stated how many games the Hometown Remix jerseys will be worn for, alternates are typically worn for 10-15 games per campaign. The jerseys are expected to be officially released sometime in October, after the 2026-27 regular season has already begun.
It will also be interesting to see how long the Hometown Remix jerseys last -- the NHL has also not yet revealed whether this is a one-season program or if it will be a multi-season rollout. Either way, though, Devils fans should be ecstatic to receive the exact jersey they've been begging for for the better part of a decade.
