The New Jersey Devils are getting a new alternate jersey next season. After retiring the Jersey jersey, it’s time for a new sweater at the Prudential Center.
The Devils have had some great alternate sweaters. The Stadium Series jersey from 2024 was an incredible look. It was the black jersey everyone wanted. The logo was perfect, and the color scheme just worked. Maybe it was a little too dark, but with the ice as a backdrop, that never seemed like an issue.
The Reverse Retro jerseys were also very well received. The first one, which was very green forward, sold out almost immediately. Every time Adidas restocked the green jersey, it sold out almost immediately.
Then, there’s the throwback jersey paying homage to the franchise’s roots. The Reverse Retro 2.0 was the same color scheme as the Kansas City Scouts, the Devils’ original franchise name. They only wore the jersey four times on the ice, but you’ll still see the jersey in the crowd every once in a while.
Now, with a new jersey upcoming, Devils fans are waiting on the edge of their seats to get the new threads.
Then, on Wednesday, a Devils division rival announced something interesting. Instead of letting a fashion professional, or Martin Brodeur, design the team’s next jersey, the New York Islanders are asking for their fans’ input.
A jersey made for the fans, designed by the fans.

The Islanders is going to choose a jersey made by the fans. They will let you choose the colors, the logo, the nameplate and number font, the striping, and more. The Islanders are even giving the winner a VIP gameday experience.
The Devils have offered fan-forward options in the past. They allowed Devils fans to choose the goal song, which they just decided to keep as Howl (smart choice). They’ve also asked fans to choose their PA announcer (bad choice).
We also have to remember that the original ownership group did not plan to name this team “the Devils.” They held a fan vote with options like Americans, Blades, and “Meadowlanders.” Luckily, the fans were smart to choose the Devils as the mascot, as this team wouldn’t feel the same with the name “Meadowlanders,” especially if they eventually moved to Newark.
We’ve seen Devils fans make the right decision, anyway, and the Islanders are still going to ultimately choose their next jersey. This seems like a no-brainer for the Devils to get the fanbase involved.
