Former New Jersey Devils broadcaster Erika Wachter finds a new gig

New Jersey Devils fans were devastated when they learned that MSG Networks did not renew intermission host Erika Wachter for the 2024-25 season. However, there's good news for Wachter, who seems to have already found her next gig.

The New Jersey Devils coverage has taken a hit this offseason. NJ Advanced Media writer Ryan Novozinsky took a job covering the New York Giants, leaving the Devils beat to a new guy. Other outlets, including Pucks and Pitchforks, are seeing some writers move on to new ventures. However, the one move that made fans most upset was when intermission host for the MSG Network games Erika Wachter announced that her employer could not agree to a new contract, and that she was leaving Devils hockey.

It was a sad day, as Devils fans knew they had a talented broadcaster who was dedicated to their team. This wasn't someone being poached by the New York Rangers or New York Islanders. Wachter was solidified in her coverage, and she really grew into the role.

Wachter joined MSG in 2018, prior to the 2018-19 season for the Devils. It was an exciting time in New Jersey, as the team was coming of Taylor Hall's MVP season, and the youth in the organization appeared to lift the spirits of everyone. Wachter was joining a future powerhouse on the ground floor.

Well, or so we thought. Her first season would test any experienced broadcaster, with multiple difficult trade conversations, and an overall dissatisfaction with the results. Wachter continued with the Devils over the next six seasons before her announcement this summer. However, it seems like she might be having her own happy ending.

Erika Wachter announced on social media on Thursday that she was hosting Honda Sportsnite on SNY. Ironically, SNY is the only sports venture not taking part in the Gotham Sports App, which pairs MSG with the YES Network.

We are incredibly happy for Erika, who has been keeping busy with stints on NHL Network and MLB Network. We hope one day we once again have Wachter covering the Devils, even if it is on SNY or from a national perspective on NHL Network.
