Winning will dictate Quinn Hughes' future destination, especially if the Devils

The speculation of the Hughes brothers potentially playing together continues as Jack Hughes spoke during the NHL media tour on Tuesday. He spoke directly about playing with his brother, but he was short of saying it had to be in New Jersey.

It seems as if the Quinn Hughes rumors will continue to be thrown around until he signs an extension with the Canucks or until he steps on the ice for another team, whether that's via trade or when he hits free agency. On Tuesday, Jack Hughes spoke with Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas of Sportsnet, mentioning the thought of him playing with his brother Quinn Hughes.

He had this to say about it, "Honestly, I'm not afraid to say it. Yeah, I would love for Quinn to - eventually I'd love to play with him. And whether that's in New Jersey or at what time that takes, at some point, I want to play with Quinn,"

"But, yeah, that's the question going around. They talk all day about it up in Vancouver, you know? But, yeah, I'd love to play with Quinn at some point."

It is clear that the noise regarding Quinn Hughes potentially leaving the Canucks has gotten louder and louder during the dog days of the offseason. Jack also mentioned that Quinn is focused on his team's success with the Canucks.

"At the end of the day, he's either gonna stay or he's gonna go; he still likes it there. Quinn's not the one making any noise. Quinn has one focus, and that's to go to Vancouver, play elite hockey, and get in the playoffs."

Every player wants to win, and the Canucks need to do that to try to keep Quinn Hughes in Vancouver for the rest of his career. The Canucks have only made the playoffs three times over the last ten seasons, one of those being the first season post-COVID-19. The last playoff appearance for Vancouver was in 2023, when they beat the Predators in the first round and then lost to the Oilers in the second round in 7 games. The Canucks had a decent season last year, finishing with 90 points, but that isn't enough in the Western Conference, also placing in 5th in the Pacific division.

Jack Hughes speaks on Quinn Hughes and causes the rumor mill to go crazy

The Devils haven't been much better over the last ten seasons, only making the playoffs three times and just getting to the second round once. One of the advantages that New Jersey has is the fact that they have a brighter future and a better team on paper. The obvious and most important advantage for the Devils is the fact that they already have two of the Hughes brothers on the team, Jack and Luke.

Team success plays a part for most players who hit the free agent market, unless they sign with the highest bidder, of course. The trajectory that the Devils seem to be on should definitely be appealing to Quinn Hughes. A chance at a Stanley Cup run with your two brothers sounds like a dream for the Hughes family. Wherever both of these teams stand when the time comes for Quinn to make a decision will be crucial.
