Reilly Walsh is one player to get really excited about. He’s going into his sophomore season with Harvard, one of the best hockey programs in the country. In his freshman season, he worked his way to getting more and more minutes, something that’s rare for a defenseman in that program. He ended the season with 20 points in 34 games from the blue line.
Walsh could be ready to leave college as early as the end of this season, a la Joey Anderson. If he finds a way to improve on his stats from last season, he could very well sign with the Devils before July 2019.
Walsh will look to be the most impressive defenseman in this development camp. That will go a long way in forcing the Devils hand. The team could really use a young defenseman that can carry big minutes. Sami Vatanen is trying to carry the unit with Will Butcher and not much else. Walsh could slot into the NHL next season if he proves himself now.
