Game 22: November 24th Vs. Vancouver Canucks

November 24, 2018 looks like any other game on the Devils schedule. They faced the Vancouver Canucks, who were still trying to figure out what team they wanted to be. They were sitting around .500 at the time, so it seems like just a random home game on the schedule, right?

Well, this was actually Hockey Fights Cancer night at the Prudential Center. As I pointed out before, the Devils have one very special player on their roster who’s currently fighting cancer. Brian Boyle.

So what did Boyle do on Hockey Fights Cancer night, you ask? Only scored the go-ahead goal in the second period. He skated in with Will Butcher on the puck. The rookie defenseman made a beautiful move to get around a Canucks defender. He sent a puck towards the net, then Boyle pounded it home.

Sure, this game may not be a rivalry game, or one that came late in the season, but this was so important to the psyche of the Devils. Boyle scoring on Hockey Fights Cancer night just started what would be a miraculous season.
