Mikael Granlund

To be frank, it’s hard to find a lot of trades between the New Jersey Devils and Nashville Predators that actually works. Where the Predators are trying to unload its talent is in overpriced veterans, and the Devils just don’t need that right now. Mostly, nobody really needs that. However, there are a couple of intriguing free agents on their roster. Number one on the list for the Devils should be Mikael Granlund.

Granlund has seen his value plummet this season. The Predators traded Kevin Fiala for Granlund, and that turned out to be a terrible deal for Nashville. Granlund has been average with the Predators while Fiala has grown immensely with Minnesota. Players have been traded to bad situations before, and they’ve moved on and grown into good players again. Granlund is just three years removed from a 26 goal season.

However, Granlund is a sneaky 28 years old. That’s on the older side of players the Devils should target, but the good news here is Granlund is an unrestricted free agent. The Devils can add him to their team without giving up any assets. Granlund is the kind of player the Devils should be taking a chance on. He plays right wing, probably would be willing to play on a short-term deal to replace his value, and is going to be short on suitors with a muted free agency frenzy due to the flat salary cap.
